GAURI DESHPANDE
Gauri Deshpande, an eminent author, whose work includes poetry, essays and short stories in Marathi and English, has been published extensively in both languages. She was also known as a translator and one of her most outstanding works was the translation into Marathi of the 16-volume The Arabian Nights by Sir Richard Burton. Nirgathi, her novella in Marathi was first published in 1987 and is translated as Ties that Bind (Women Unlimited, 2009) by Shashi Deshpande. |
